Nikon launches the D300

According to Nikon, their D300 — the highly anticipated successor to the D200 — should be available in November 2007.

I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to call the D300 a D3-lite, as many pros will undoubtedly choose this as their main or backup body, especially those semi-pros who will balk at the US$5,000-plus price tag of the D3. And at about US$1,800, many amateurs it will see the D300 as attainable.
The D300 features:

  • DX format 12 megapixel CMOS (supposedly possibly the same as the D2X)
  • Live view LCD
  • 6fps, up to 8fps with power grip (no HSC mode)
  • ISO 200 - 3200 with LO (ISO 100 equivalent), H1 (ISO 6400)
  • 51 point autofocus system (15 cross sensor)

Nikon launches the D3, a “full-frame” DSLR camera

It’s finally here. After months, even years, of rumor and speculation we have the real deal from Nikon. By all reports, Nikon’s first and only “full-frame” digital SLR seems to be a great camera. It’s not for most amateurs, though. It’s US$5,000-plus price tag places it in the pro category. However, in Nikon’s new D300 DSLR, we already can see the trickle down effect the very advanced technology used in the D3 will have on future offerings from this company.

The D3 features:

  • Full frame (FX) 12 megapixel Nikon CMOS sensor — nearly the size of 35mm film
  • Live view LCD
  • 9fps in FF mode, 11fps in HSC mode (at 1.5 crop factor / DX size)
  • ISO 200 - 6400 with LO (ISO 100 equivalent), H1 and H2 (ISO 12800 / 25600, respectively)
  • 51 point auto focus system (15 cross sensor)
